The Microsoft Surface all-in-one magnetic cover and keyboard is touted as one of its biggest, innovative features. From what I’ve read and heard, I’d agree.

My assistant uses her iPad along with a separate keyboard. It works great but if we could eliminate one item (however small and light) to carry with us while traveling, that would be great. Seeing the demise of the BlackBerry however – whose physical keyboard was such an important driver of its past success – I do wonder if my reaction is consistent with the broader marketplace. So please reply back to [email protected] and let me know what you think.

Finally and for Microsoft’s sake, I also hope that their legal team took great pains to patent protect this keyboard/cover design. If Apple enhances its magnetic cover with typing capabilities this Christmas, then any competitive advantage that Microsoft might have now would be lost.
